Doing the heavy lifting … Foro Shakespeare & FARO de Oriente (Mexico DF)

I’m visiting Mexico City and my friend Ana is making sure that I get to see all the projects that she knows I would find interesting.  Today I went to a press conference at Foro Shakespeare where they launched Ricardo 0.3 (Richard III) to be staged throughout the city’s prison system.  The proceeds from ticket purchases go to the families of the prisoners.  Foro Shakespeare takes a holistic approach by focusing on prison reform alongside gender violence and a focus on youth who are either entering the corrections system or somehow affected by same the continuum of violence.

Later in the day, I stopped at the FARO de Oriente, a community cultural center in Oriente on the outskirts of Mexico DF.  From Computer Clubhouse to hydroponic gardening, this place engages all ages to try and offer diverse opportunities to families in one of the city’s tougher neighborhoods.
