Caregiving and Goodness: Their Broader Role in Society

akYesterday I went to an open lecture at the University of Cape Town with Professor Arthur Kleinman on the theme Caregiving and Goodness: Their Broader Role in Society.  He spoke optimistically about a future – maybe 100 years away – when an ethics of care eclipses the rational model.

He quoted a beautiful passage by Toni Morrisson from her 2012 Ingersol Lecture on Immorality at the Harvard Divinity School, entitled Goodness: Altruism and the Literary Imagination.
